Q: Can I receive phone calls, voicemail indications, or text messages while I am broadcasting images with Cellicast 1.0?

The answer is "maybe" in all cases. It depends on your mobile operator, the manufacturer of your phone, and the model of your phone. Text messages tend to the most commonly received item.

Many of our frequent users actually purchase a 2nd device on their existing plan and use it exclusively for broadcasting with Cellicast 1.0. This is facilitated by operators offering "two-for-one" promotions, or competitive rebate offers.

Specifically for Treo users, whether you receive a call or not while you are broadcasting with Cellicast 1.0 (or accessing the Internet in general) is a function of your operator/network type.

On the GSM Treo (e.g. T-Mobile/Cingular): The phone will temporarily suspend the data connection for an incoming call. The phone will ring through immediately and you will be able to answer it. While talking, your data session will be temporarily suspended. Once you finish talking, your data session will resume automatically. Sometimes, during high-bandwidth data links, a call may go to voicemail.

On the CDMA Treo (e.g. Sprint): Phone calls which come in during an active data connection which is being used to send or receive data will go directly to voicemail. If the caller leaves a voicemail message, you will get an alert telling you that you have a message. If a call comes in and you have an active data connection but you are not currently sending or receiving data, then you can answer the call.
