Technically you do not. However, holding your mobile device for an extended period of time may get tiring! More importantly, it the "frame of reference" for each image changes too much, then the animations will not look smooth, and will look more like a slide show. For this reason, we recommend using the VersiPod for tabletops (or flat surfaces) and the Clamperpod for outdoors or driving.
